Which seems more appropriate for a history text book: lessons on the founding fathers and the Constitution, or blatant and unsubstantiated attacks on the president of the United States? According to the well-known text book publisher Pearson Education, the answer appears to be the latter.
A new U.S. history textbook set to be released in 2019 called “By the People” suggests that President Trump and his supporters are racist, and that their ultimate goal is to make America’s leadership almost exclusively white.
“Trump’s supporters saw the vote [in 2016] as a victory for the people who, like themselves, had been forgotten in a fast-changing America – a mostly older, often rural or suburban, and overwhelmingly white group,” reads the textbook, as reported by several news outlets including The American Mirror. “[Hillary] Clinton’s supporters feared that the election had been determined by people who were afraid of a rapidly developing ethnic diversity of the country, discomfort with their candidate’s gender and nostalgia for an earlier time in the nation’s history.” (Related: California recently mandated LGBT indoctrination of all students in public schools, and parents are not given the choice to opt out.)
Obviously, there are a number of things that need to be addressed in that one paragraph alone. First and foremost, there is no evidence whatsoever that suggests that the outcome of the presidential election was the result of people who were “afraid of ethnic diversity” and wanted to return to “an earlier time in the nation’s history.” Why the authors of this book can’t accept the fact that Trump supporters voted for Donald Trump simply because they liked his ideas is anyone’s guess.
Second, it’s worth noting that yet again, the liberals are using identity politics to further divide the country along racial lines – Donald Trump gained the support of white people, they argue, and Hillary Clinton had a much more diverse set of voters. This is insulting to the minorities that did decide to vote for President Trump in 2016, and further perpetuates the ridiculous left-wing narrative that most, if not all, minorities vote for Democrats.
But that’s not all. In addition to implying that Trump won the election because his supporters are racist, the textbook also says, “They [the Clinton supporters] also worried about the mental instability of the president-elect and the anger that he and his supporters brought to the nation.” Here again, there is no evidence whatsoever that Donald Trump is mentally unstable, yet this textbook seems to have no problem telling readers otherwise.
Sadly, this is just one example out of dozens of schools indoctrinating students with false, anti-Trump rhetoric. Last August, Campus Reform reported that Bic Ngo, a professor in the department of Curriculum and Education at the University of Minnesota, argued that those who are concerned over immigration’s impact on the United States have views that are rooted in “racist nativism.” Evidently, in this professor’s mind, concerns over immigration have nothing to do with the economy, jobs or retaining American culture; it’s all about racism and an uncontrollable hatred towards people that are not from this country. (Related: This American university is now officially offering resistance training to students so that they can combat President Trump’s agenda.)
It is long past time for conservatives to stand up and demand that America’s education system and the professors within it get back to teaching students about American exceptionalism and the real history of the United States. The classroom should be a place where young people learn how to think and not what to think; unfortunately, liberals in this country seem to believe in the opposite.
