A 40-year-old man named Stuart Worby has been found guilty of secretly administering abortion pills to his then-pregnant partner without her knowledge and consent.
According to LifeSiteNews, Worby got mifepristone and misoprostol pills through Neuza Cepeda, the girlfriend of co-defendant Wayne Finney. Cepeda secured the pills through a telemedicine appointment at Gynae Center, one of the largest abortion providers in the United Kingdom, without ever having an in-person consultation with a medical professional.
When Worby got the pills, he crushed the mifepristone into the orange juice of his partner and inserted the misoprostol into her during a sexual encounter.
Worby’s girlfriend, who was 15 weeks pregnant at the time, had no idea that Worby had procured the pills online or that he had taken such drastic action to induce a miscarriage. The victim, whose identity has been withheld to protect her privacy, testified in court about the devastating impact the ordeal has had on her life. She also revealed that she is now in a new relationship but has been left unable to conceive a child as a result of the traumatic experience.
“The only baby that I could have had was the one I lost,” she said.
In line with this, the Norwich Crown Court sentenced Worby to 12 years in prison for administering abortion pills to his pregnant partner without her consent, while Cepeda was convicted of complicity in the crime. On the other hand, Wayne Finney, who was initially implicated in the case, was found not guilty after maintaining that he had only researched the pills and played no active role in administering them. The case of Worby and his ex-girlfriend has prompted campaign group Right to Life U.K. to call for an immediate end to the “pills by post” practice.
“This is not an isolated incident and before at-home abortion schemes were made permanent, MPs warned that the scheme would likely be used to obtain pills that would be used by third parties to perform an abortion on a woman without her knowing,” Right to Life U.K. noted.
“We are calling for the Government to immediately end the ‘pills by post’ at-home abortion scheme,” Right to Life U.K. spokesperson Catherine Robinson said. “Under this scheme one of the U.K.’s largest private abortion providers supplied pills that were later used by Stuart Worby to spike a woman’s drink and end the life of her unborn child at 15 weeks gestation.”
Robinson also called for a full inquiry into The Gynae Center, the provider that supplied the abortion pills.
“We are calling for a full inquiry into The Gynae Center, the abortion provider that supplied the abortion pills that Stuart Worby used,” she continued. “Had at-home abortions not been introduced, Stuart Worby would not have been able to obtain these pills from this abortion provider, and this tragic case would not have happened.”
