Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has issued a stark warning that Israel’s pursuit of a “Greater Israel” poses the gravest threat to Middle Eastern stability. He also accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government of seeking territorial expansion into neighboring nations while deliberately destabilizing the region.

Fidan issued the warning on Sunday, Sept. 14, during an interview with Al Jazeera in the Qatari capital Doha. It followed his participation in an emergency summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League held that day.

“There are two reasons underlying Israel’s expansionism,” he told the Qatari outlet. “The first is to enlarge its territories and establish Greater Israel. The second is to keep the countries in the region weak, ineffective, and especially to leave Israel’s neighboring states divided.”

Fidan framed Tel Aviv’s actions as part of a long-term strategy to redraw regional borders and weaken sovereign states through division and military aggression. “The issue is no longer just the Palestinian-Israeli conflict,” he ultimately declared. “It is about Israel’s expansionism threatening the entire region.”

Fidan’s remarks follow Netanyahu’s tacit endorsement of the Greater Israel concept last month, when he affirmed his connection to the idea during an interview with i24 News. The vision extends Israeli claims beyond occupied Palestinian territories into parts of Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and Iraq.

Ultranationalist factions in the Jewish-majority nation have historically championed Greater Israel. Last year, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich openly advocated the blueprint – citing biblical prophecy.
