Justice Dept. charges state judge with aiding, abetting escape of illegal alien: Aren’t ALL sanctuary jurisdictions guilty of the same thing?

Supporters of POTUS Donald Trump who have been waiting for his administration to begin cracking down on Leftists who are working to thwart his immigration reform and border security efforts just got a huge morale booster this week.

On Friday the Justice Department announced charges against a Massachusetts judge who allegedly aided and abetted a twice-deported illegal alien escape from Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

As Breitbart News reported, District Court Judge Shelly Richmond Joseph, along with Trial Court Officer Wesley MacGregor, have been charged by federal prosecutors with “charges of conspiracy to obstruct justice and obstruction of a federal proceeding – aiding and abetting provide for sentences of no greater than 20 and five years in prison, respectively; five and three years of supervised release, respectively; and a fine of $250,000,” according to a press statement from the Department of Justice.

As The National Sentinel reported in December, Joseph had been under investigation for some time — which may help explain the lapse in time it took to indict her:

A federal grand jury is investigating a state judge in Massachusetts who allegedly violated her oath of office and the law by helping an illegal alien who appeared in her court escape Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

According to the Justice Department, Joseph and MacGregor are accused of helping Jose Medina-Perez avoid waiting ICE agents after he had been arrested in March 2018 for possession of narcotics. One of the agents who went to the Newton, Mass., courthouse to arrest and deport him “announced his presence to Courthouse personnel, including Joseph, upon arrival,” the DoJ said.

“Prior to the afternoon session, the courtroom clerk — at Joseph’s direction — allegedly instructed the ICE Officer to leave the courtroom and wait outside in the lobby, stating that in the event the defendant was released, it would be through the courtroom and into the lobby,” the statement continued.

During the proceeding for Medina-Perez, Joseph ordered the courtroom audio recording ceased — in violation of District Court rules — while she and MacGregor conferred with Medina-Perez’s attorney about the waiting ICE agent. A few minutes later, the recorder was turned back on, Joseph released the defendant:

According to the charging documents, the defense attorney asked to speak with the defendant downstairs and Joseph responded, “That’s fine. Of course.” When reminded by the clerk that an ICE Officer was in the courthouse, Joseph stated, “That’s fine. I’m not gonna allow them to come in here. But he’s been released on this.” Immediately following the proceeding, MacGregor allegedly escorted the defendant, his attorney and an interpreter downstairs to the lockup and used his security access card to open the rear sally-port exit and released the defendant at 3:01 p.m.

It’s time for DoJ to arrest and charge them all

It should be noted that in February 2017, the city of Newton declared itself a “sanctuary city,” adopting a policy that either forbids or discourages local police and authorities from assisting federal immigration authorities in the removal of illegal aliens from the United States.

Obviously, the city and its officials are going ‘above and beyond’ with their sanctuary policy — which makes this arrest and prosecution by the Trump administration extremely important in the president’s quest to get his message across to cities, counties, and states that he will no longer tolerate flagrant violations of immigration law.

“The arrest is a hard-nosed move by [POTUS] against sanctuary cities and states,” Breitbart’s Neil Munro writes. “These anti-enforcement jurisdictions are proliferating as progressives and business interests ally to protect their supply of cheap labor…”

Like it or not, federal law, per the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause, supersedes state and local laws — meaning federal immigration laws supersede any ‘sanctuary’ ordinances. Every single state and local official who either approves or maintains sanctuaries for illegal aliens should meet the same fate as Judge Joseph.
