A government watchdog group has learned that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) spent $17 million in American tax money last year on hotel rooms for “migrants” who never actually checked in.
ICE signed an $87 million contract with the nonprofit company Endeavors, which was supposed to provide services for the surge of invaders at America’s southern border, revealed the Department of Homeland Security‘s (DHS) Inspector General in a new report.
Instead of signing on with Endeavors as the “sole source” for migrant services, ICE was supposed to seek multiple bids for the work. The result of this failure was more than 1,200 hotel rooms being blocked off that were never actually used.
ICE still had to pay Endeavors the $17 million, even though the rooms rented remained mostly empty between April and June of last year, according to the report. “ICE’s sole source contract with Endeavors resulted in millions of dollars being spent on unused hotel space,” the report stated.
Officials further said that Endeavors put “migrant families and the outside population at risk of contracting COVID-19” by not following testing procedures before transporting migrants into the United States.
The Texas-based company also failed to provide snacks and storage areas for migrant families, which are required by ICE guidelines and by the contract that was signed.
The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) said that spotty surveillance and document security at migrant facilities run by Endeavors is another concern.
All of this occurred at the same time that Endeavors entered into another more lucrative no-bid contract with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This contract was forged right after the organization hired Biden regime transition team member Andrew Lorenzen-Strait as its senior director for migrant services and federal affairs.
In response to the allegations, ICE denied that it did anything wrong, claiming that the reason it hastily entered a no-bid contract was because of the “unusual and compelling urgency” of the migrant border crisis.
“ICE is committed to ensuring that non-citizens in its custody reside in safe, secure and humane environments, and under appropriate conditions of confinement,” an agency executive wrote in a March letter to DHS.
Endeavors also issued its own statement to Fox News, claiming that it “followed appropriate protocols and met the standard of care for migrant families in this contract.”
“These people are not migrants; they are invaders and illegal aliens and occupiers, and should be described as such,” wrote someone in the comments of a story about the ICE scandal.
“Wonder if the ‘big guy’ got his 10 percent,” joked another person referring to Joe Biden (or perhaps Barack Hussein Obama?).
“Meanwhile, veterans are living on the streets,” said someone else, pointing out how heinous it is that the American government is using American tax dollars to pay for hotels for illegal aliens while letting actual Americans suffer.
Another commenter speculated that the $70 million that was supposedly spent on illegal alien housing at hotels actually went to housing them “quietly and unsafely around the country.” The other $17 million? That was spent “screwing it up,” this person added.
Endeavors is apparently a disabled veteran-owned business, which another commenter joked means that “they can do whatever they want; rules do not apply!”
“See? There IS a downside to selective discrimination!” this person added.
Nobody, of course, wrote that ICE should be allowed to get away with this gross mismanagement of taxpayer funds.
